Southern Snow. Last of Christmas.

January 24, 2022

Quick Covid update: Steve and I are about 70% back to normal. We are still experiencing fatigue and coughing and I’m having more shortness of breath than usual. It will be interesting to see what my pulmonary function testing reveals on Friday as to any changes in the lungs.  We’re just thankful we didn’t have it worse.

Just because I’m a  southerner, I just have to brag about the two inches of snow we got on Saturday.  (You northerners can keep your snickers to yourself.)  🙂

My good friend, Greta, was taking a walk downtown and ran into this impervious-to-the-cold fishing family.

Is that not the cutest?

Summer is not the most adventurous dog on the planet but I figured she needed to at least experience twenty seconds of snow on her dainty princess paws.  I knew that if I set her right outside the door she would run right back in so I carried her to the other side of the deck so that she’d have to walk back.  I thought she’d run as speedily as possible, but instead, she did sort of a graceful, high-stepping prance.

I’m sure it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes very long to figure out this Footstep Story.

Just a reminder that Sarah has her CT scan on Wednesday.  I’ll post results when we get them. Thanks for your prayers for her and Gage and for all of us as we wait on results.

And now on to the last of the Christmas festivities. These are all from the photoshoot we did; some candid shots and some posed shots.  Lots of chaos. Lots of fun.  Treasured memories.

What about you?

How many inches of snow do you have on the ground right now?  What’s your temp?  Where are you in this world?  I always love to see the names of towns, states, and countries roll in.

Also, are we the only ones who still have Christmas decor up?  We have invited Sarah and Gage over for dinner tonight and they’re going to help us get it all boxed away.

Praying for good doctor’s reports for you and Sarah!

I love the family pictures! Your family is beautiful and so dynamic!

Living is Georgia we don’t get a lot of snow but we’ve gotten snow the last 2 weekends! Not enough to shut the world down but it’s been pretty and usually lasts less than 24 hours which is perfect. I am not a cold weather fan but I do like to see snow about once a year.

If we hadn’t been having a baby shower the 2nd weekend in January, my Christmas decor would have been up longer 🙂 I love to leave it up until Epiphany at least. I think I would leave it up year round if my husband wouldn’t freak out 😀 I just love the Christmas lights.

    • Becky says:

      Suzanne,

Leaving it up year-round would be a lot less work, wouldn’t it? 🙂 We’re halfway through getting ours down. Sooner or later . . . probably later.

Glad you got the right dosage of snow–pretty for 24 hours and then gone. I am in total agreement.

Thanks for your prayers over the doctor visits this week.

  2. Kristina says:

I’m currently in the Catskill Mountains of update New York, and we probably have about 7-ish inches of snow right now with more possibly expected this weekend. It’s been cold, down to right around zero, although we’re in the 20s today.

    • Becky says:

      Kristina,

Just reading the word “Catskill” I just picture a fabulously beautiful place. I’m sure the 20’s feel like a heat wave!

  3. Lesley says:

Most importantly, prayers for good news from yours and Sarah’s tests this week. I love the snow fisherpeople, so cute and clever. Great family pictures, my favorite is the silly faces group shot.
Here in the DC area, we have had some snow off and on the past couple of weeks. Right now the ground is bare, the grass is brown and the clouds are a heavy purple blue. Its chilly and windy. My eyes are on the storm brewing for later this week. I love to watch the snow fall 🙂
I am hoping that you and Steve continue to improve with your covid symptoms. It can be a real bear, as we all know. Fingers crossed.

    • Becky says:

      Lesley,

I love the description “a heavy purple blue.” I can just sit here in my comfy chair and actually picture that. We’ve got snow in our forecast this weekend, too, which is pretty exciting to have it twice in a week.

I love to watch it fall, too. I hope you get plenty of snow-watching moments!

I don’t see why your family has to hog all the photogenic-ness! You guys are just beautiful. And cute. And charming. Yep, great pics! 🙂

So thankful you and Steve are feeling some better. And adding our love and prayers for the tests coming up.

We have probably 5-6 inches of snow in our part of WI and it’s been sooo cold–a lot of below zero at night and single digits in the daytime. Blech. Where’s Spring when you need it? Grumble.

    Love, Deb

    • Becky says:

      Deb,

And you are so sweet and thoughtful to even say all those nice things. Thank you! 🙂

Below zero at night is not a happy thought. I bet Croix is not too excited about going outside right now.

Thanks for the prayers for the week’s tests. Hugs!

The family pictures really make me smile! Thank you for sharing!

We live in south central Nebraska (Hastings) and we don’t have ANY snow on the ground. Everything keeps missing us. Ugh. We have only had a couple of inches of snow all winter. Very, very unusual for us. In fact, we are in a pretty severe drought and we could really use some moisture! I LOVE snow so it wouldn’t bother me a bit if we got a big ‘ol snow storm! Our temps have been very unseasonably warm too. So many days in the mid-50’s but then a dip with a cold front and cold temps for a day or two then right back up again.

Prayers for both you and Sarah with the upcoming tests.

    • Becky says:

      Lee Anne,

Wow. No snow in NE really IS unusual! I know you (and the ground) would appreciate a huge snow storm to raise those water tables. Hoping it comes soon!

  6. Kaye Joyce says:

Many prayers for great test results for you and Sarah this week. Praying also that you and Steve won’t have a lot of issues with crazy symptoms which are called post Covid symptoms. I know several that have a lot of yucky things going on with their health due to having Covid. There is still a lot of people with it here in Mount Airy, NC. I pray that God will take it away soon. We only have little patches of ice laying around here now but they are talking about a huge snow storm for us this weekend. I LOVE SNOW

    • Becky says:

      Kaye,

Yeah, there’s been some talk here of more snow this weekend although I’m sure you will get A LOT more than us. Enjoy!

  7. SueEllen says:

In Mesquite, Texas we have absolutely zero inches of snow. A week or two ago there were supposed flurries if you looked outside at just the right time, so I’m jealous of your two inch snow accumulation. In Texas we seldom get “real” snow – it’s usually sleet & ice. I loved all the rest of your Christmas photo shoot. As I scrolled through, I tried to decide if I liked the formal or candid shots best and I can say in all confidence it was a tie. These are some great shots! I hope you and Steve continue to heal and that you and Sarah both get good news from your medical procedures this week.

    • Becky says:

      Sue Ellen,

Yeah, looking outside at the right time kind of sums it up for us, too. Last week it snowed through parts of the night and I thought that was it. It was disappointing because I love to watch it fall. And then at 7 a.m., it snowed for an entire hour and I got to see it fall sitting in my comfy chair. Bliss!

Thanks for your sweet words about the photos. I agree–it’s hard to decide between posed and candid. But at least we got them done–that’s the most important thing!

      • SueEllen says:

There is something so peaceful about watching snow fall. On our “hub” page at work, tech services added a snowman for the winter months and if you click on it, “snow” falls across the screen. It makes me smile every morning when I turn it on.

        • Becky says:

          Sue Ellen,

I love your tech people for thinking of such a whimsical day-brightener. Snow every day in winter and you don’t have to shovel it!

  8. DeLynn says:

My husband and I are about the same age as you and Steve. We had Covid a few days before Christmas. It dawned on me yesterday that I felt back to normal. For me, fatigue was the long-lasting issue. My husband is still coughing a bit (he was sicker than I was) but I think otherwise he is back to normal also.

I pray that your lung function test goes well, Becky. Also praying for Sarah’s CT scan.

We live just south of Chattanooga. It has been quite cold here…but basically dry. We did have a little snow last weekend.

Because of Covid, we didn’t celebrate Christmas with our children and grandchildren until last weekend. An out-of-state friend asked if my Christmas decor was still up for our celebration. I chuckled and told her I am a day-after-Christmas take down the decorations person, so no, they weren’t still up! 😊

    • Becky says:

      DeLynn,

I’m impressed at your undecorating speediness! We are at the far opposite end of the spectrum from you. We got our tree down last night, but now it’s sitting in the box in the hallway until we muster our gumption to move it to the garage.

Glad you got to see your family, even if it was a little later than hoped. Kids and grandkids give Christmas extra sparkle.

Glad you and your husband feel like you’re back to feeling mostly normal. Fatigue and cough are definitely the things to hang on.

  9. Desera says:

23 degrees with a “feels like” temp of 16 here in balmy central New York state; Binghamton to be exact. We have about 6 or so inches of snow right now. We have consistently been in the negatives for overnights and some of the days as well.

    • Becky says:

      Desera,

I can only imagine that you all are counting down the days till spring and temps climbing a few numbers in the opposite direction. Although we have milder winters in the south, we certainly don’t appreciate spring that you folks who are more northern do.

      Sending warm thoughts!

  10. Sharyn McDonald says:

Very cold in MN. Let’s just say “much snow.” Love all the pictures, but as Hobbs would say, “I like the smooching one’s best.” Couldn’t remember when Sarah was going in, but just made it a matter of prayer that things will be great.

    • Becky says:

      Sharyn,

I guess in Minnesota you just stop counting the inches, right? You guys are snow-blessed.

The smooching one really is a good one! 🙂

Sarah’s appointment is tomorrow; mine is Friday. Blessings.

  11. Guerrina says:

Prayers up for both your and Sarah’s tests! Love the pic of the fishing family! I grew up in Noank, a quaint fishing village, on the southeast CT shoreline, and now live about 20 minutes from there in Ledyard, CT. Winter weather here is psychotic this year…50 degrees one day and mins 10 with wind chill the next. Our little corner has probably had the same amount of snow as you so far! Christmas stuff is down…not put away, but at least down. Whatever temp it is here today, it’s breezy and cold! My thermometer with an outdoor sensor died during the night. I’m guessing we’re in the 30s somewhere, lol!

    • Becky says:

      Guerrina,

” . . .Noank, a quaint fishing village, on the southeast CT shoreline . . .” Those very words make me want to jump in my car with my camera and head for CT. Be still, my heart.

Although I am not quite so jealous of your wind chill temps. That is very weird to see it fluctuate that much!

  12. Phyllis says:

Prayers that Sarah’s CT Scan will be good news.
I live in Overland Park, KS, a suburb of the KC Metro area on the Kansas side. The only snow we have left is on the north side of buildings and of course piles where it’s been plowed in parking lots, etc. Our snow fell on January 15. It’s currently 50 degrees here but is projected to drop to near single digits overnight. Our temperature has been a roller coaster over the last few weeks. 40 or 50 a couple days, teens the next couple days.
Love the family photo shoot pictures. Looks like Andrew might have had enough picture taking in some of the pictures.
I don’t have any Christmas decor up still but I never put any out this year. You have been gone some plus having had COVID so I think you get a pass for still having it up. I was pretty late getting mine down last year due my mom’s fall and being with them until mid January.

    • Becky says:

      Phyllis,

That’s funny. Guerrina said in her comment that CT has been the exact way with wildly fluctuating temperatures. So crazy!

Yes, Andrew was ready for his nap time but he was a good sport. 🙂

Thanks for the pass on being late on our decorations. I was thinking the same thing–a lot of extenuating circumstances

  13. Patti says:

Prayers for upcoming tests and good results for you and Sarah. We are in Michigan near Grand Rapids. We have about 8 inches of new snow the last 2 days. I am loving it. Had been cold-under 30 for a week now. I have made some fun ice sculptures, but no snow fishermen, that was so cute. Our Christmas is put away, but it was a slow process.

    • Becky says:

      Patti,

Eight inches is a nice moderate amount. Enough to have some fun in without getting swamped by it.

Why did I not know you were in Michigan? Aren’t you from New England? I missed that transition somewhere along the way.

  14. Sharon Ohler says:

Hi Becky … we had about 8 inches of snow here in Western MD. The temperatures have been frigid. Saturday morning it was -1. Today it’s a balmy 30 degrees. My Shih Tzu, Dixie, spent the first 5 years of her life in NC. She’s a southern Belle so getting used to out MD winters has been a challenge.
    Blessings, Sharon

  15. Donna says:

Such lovely pictures, posed and hilarity ones!! Prayers for your healing and good reports from Sarah’s CT scan.

  16. Krista says:

I am in Grand Forks, ND and I am holding my snicker in =)
We have had a total of 44 inches of snow this year. As for on the ground now? Who know. But it’s a lot! Our temp is currently -5 and tomorrow will be a “high” of -7. BUT… we have no mosquitoes!!

Praying for Sarah’s appointment on Wednesday!

    • Becky says:

      Krista,

Actually, I can hear your snicker from here. 🙂

44 inches? I think you need to morph from a snicker to an outright guffaw! We are definitely snow wimps.

Thanks so much for the prayers to accompany Sarah to her appointment.

  17. Marilynn1022@gmail.com says:

We live in Ashtabula,Ohio(NE corner). Known as the snow belt area. We got up to 26 ” of snow last Thursday!!! Praying for your family’s health. Also that Sarah’s CT scan shows only good news. Been following you since you started posting all those years ago! Marilyn

    • Becky says:

      Marilynn,

Twenty-six inches? We southerners would be hunkered down for a month!

Am I correct in thinking this might be your first comment? Or at least a “not in a very long time” comment! If so, hooray! If not, hooray anyway!

  18. Cindy says:

Praying for positive results for both you and Sarah this week! The sun is out and it’s 2 degrees right now, but it feels like -12 here in Saint Cloud MN. We are having a warm day for us, but lately down to -30 far two often. I just finished clearing the snow off my car and hope to make it over the berm so I can grocery shop. We have had about five inches of snow over the past two days but only half an inch last night. I only had to clear last nights snow off my car. Glad to hear you and Steve are feeling better! Loved all the photos, especially the crazy ones.

    • Becky says:

      Cindy,

Hmmm. Berm isn’t a word you see every day. I had a basic idea but looked it up anyway to confirm.

You’re right near where my brother lives so I always picture him, too, when you give your weather reports. Quite a change from California but it sounds like you’re really enjoying where you’re living.

  19. Gloria A Smith says:

    Becky,

I am praying to our precious Jesus for healing of your shortness of breath. Praying also for Pastor Steve’s physical healing.

Love all the photos, especially the fishing snowmen.

Please keep my family in your prayers. 91 yr old Mama Dorothy has been in the hospital since January 19th, her second hospitalization this month. She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2018 and recently diagnosed with covid pneumonia. It truly breaks my heart, especially heart breaking that she’s not allowed visitors.

I will continue to praise the Lord during the storm knowing that he has his plan in place.

    Amen & Praise the Lord

    Gloria Smith
    Asheville, NC

    • Becky says:

      Gloria,

I know what you mean about no visitors. We went through the same thing with Steve’s dad and it truly is heartbreaking.

How encouraging to be reminded that God has His plan in place with the whole world–including Mama Dorothy–in His hands.

  20. Karen says:

Love the family pictures. Thank you for posting. We live north central Iowa almost Minnesota. We have a foot of blowing snow. Cloudy temp 12 (high for today) with 18 mph wind feels like -5. Noonish today temps predicted to start falling to below zero for tomorrow. I removed Christmas decorations before Epiphany and was informed I was to leave them up until at least Epiphany. I tend to do stuff when I have time, right or wrong. Maybe next year. Prayers for your healing after COVID. Karen

    • Becky says:

      Karen,

I’d never heard of leaving Christmas decor up till Epiphany! I’m like you; if I have time and/or energy, it gets done, no matter the date on the calendar. Gage was just saying his family almost always takes down their Christmas stuff a day or two after Christmas. So many variations!

I’m trying to think warm thoughts on your behalf but my brain can’t quite wrap itself around words like “below zero.” Spring is closer than it was!
