The Aftermath of the Afterbath. And A Cardboard-Riding Daughter.

The bathroom is done!

Here is a before and after shot. Quite a difference, huh?

bathroom redo final

This photo gives you an idea of where the bathroom is relative to the rest of the downstairs. (It also shows Summer doing a little reconnaissance work as she patrols the downstairs looking for any bad guys. She is one fluffy, delicate, darling watch dog.)

We found the sink unit on a really good sale—happy day!  Steve was able to reuse the faucets from our old sink which made the deal even nicer.

One more shot of the old look . . .

. . .  compared with one more shot of the new look. Ahhh.

Midway through the renovation process, I came out of our local grocery one afternoon and popped open the back of the van to put my groceries away. I was rather startled by this sight! (I hadn’t realized Steve had already picked up our new (used) toilet and was storing it in the van.)

I waited until I got home to snap these pictures. I didn’t want to be the crazy woman in the middle of our small town grocery parking taking pictures of a toilet in the back of her vehicle.  I must admit, the sight of it looming so unexpectedly on the grocery store horizon did give me a bit of a giggle.

Steve invested a lot of time effort, and sweat into this project and did an amazing job. (And he also saved a bunch of money in the process.) When it was all finished, the two weeks inconvenience of having a ripped up bathroom and tools and supplies scattered everywhere was well worth the trouble

The three of us are loving the redo so much that occasionally we’ll just go into the bathroom and stand and stare at it. (I’ve always said we were easily entertained.)

I wanted to follow up on Sarah’s week at UNC-W attending leadership camp. She had a great time and even played several different sports, even though sports aren’t really her thing. One of her favorite activities was a team competition where she was pulled along the grass on some cardboard.

Good times!

When the van she rode home in pulled into our driveway at about 4 p.m. last Friday, I was one happy mama.

So happy she got to go. So happy she’s home.

great job – very pretty. What is that thing in the corner with legs?

    • Becky says:

      Becky,

It’s a candle holder. Eventually we want to put something a little more substantial in that corner but the candle holder will do for now! 🙂

  2. It looks lovely 😀 And I really like the closet.
How long time have you been living in your house now? Must be a few years?

The bathroom renovation looks great! 🙂 I love the vanity and mirror. 🙂

    • Becky says:

      Kristi,

We were happy to find one we liked that was the right size for that spot–AND on sale. I especially the sink part of the vanity; such a pretty shape.

Wow, it still amazes me that Steve did all that himself…like I said, mine needs to hire someone to change a light bulb! I actually have to stop him from trying to do things around the house, because it usually winds up as a disaster and we have to call someone in to fix his mess.

    • Becky says:

      Melissa,

Well, he did it all except the flooring. But yes, he’s a gifted guy in the handyman department. And don’t worry–he’s also had to call in a plumber once or twice when he got in a little too deep. There are few things he won’t try on his own though!

Ah, Becky, your old bathroom is what mine currently looks like, and it’s an improvement from what we had in our last house. It’s like yours right down to the tile floor, bright yellow walls and the exact same sink.

    • Becky says:

      Cath,

That’s funny we both had a similar look going on! 🙂 I actually love yellow walls–we have them throughout our whole downstairs. Very cheery.

Very very nice job on the bathroom reno! I especially love the deep rich colour. It looks very modern and classy.

    • Becky says:

Jenna, thanks. Steve and I have always loved dramatic colors. We were trying to decide between the berry and a “safer” tan and then just decided to go for it and be a little wilder. Glad we did!

    your loo is lovely!

    glad Sarah is home.

your photo reminded me of an incident that happened to me about 18 years ago.
(hope I haven’t already told you this.) I was giving a new jr. kindergartner her entrance test, and I needed something out of my car. Her mother volunteered to get it. I had forgotten that I had a toilet seat in the car… and was sorta amused when I got in to drive home. (It was yellow, and I needed to find a new yellow lid… which I didn’t until years later when Mrs. Guthrie said there are ‘kits’ that you can buy, and match colors and then the company will send whatever you order. )

    • Becky says:

      Mrs. Pam,

A lovely loo. Sounds like something Winnie the Pooh might say as in, “A lovely loo, said Pooh!” 🙂

As for matching toilet lid colors, that was news to me that you can buy a kit. Good info to have. (And I’m sure your student’s mother was good and puzzled over why you had that seat in your car!)

Bathroom looks gorgeous! You are so fortunate to have such a skilled handyman for a husband. Glad to know that Sarah had a good time and returned home safely.

  9. Bea says:
