Traffic Jamming. Headless Dog Sleeping.

July 31, 2013

So. You probably want to see lovely pictures from our Florida vacation, right?  Well, here ya go.

Pretty lovely, right? At this point on Monday afternoon, on our extremely long journey, I must admit that my heart was longing for peaceful, placid Manteo.

Fortunately, though, I had some wonderful traveling companions to make the trip (and all its traffic) go by a little more pleasantly.

There was Sarah who tapped away diligently at her computer keys for much of the trip, working on stories, edits, videos, writing and all manner of  Esoteric and Creative Sarah Smith Projects. (She’s trying to do the whole “stroke the beard and look thoughtful pose” but it lost a little something in the absence of an actual, real beard.)

Of course, there was also our intrepid pilot, my own personal hubby.  I gave him about an hour’s break from driving but other than that (and a few miscellaneous stops), he was behind the wheel from 7:15 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.   He did marvelously and was especially entertaining after he’d had an extra cup of coffee.

And then there was this traveling companion.

Is it just me, or does it look like she has no head?

Of course, when your hair looks this bad, having no head is sort of a good thing. (She had just been in front of the air conditioning vent, which blew her ‘do hither and yon.

Summer did pretty well on the interminable trip although the sedative we had gotten from the vet that was supposed to keep her calm and help her sleep? Well, it didn’t really kick in until about 10 hours into the trip. And then it knocked her slap out and she slept blissfully for the last 90 minutes.  I just love the way that her right let is casually looped over my right leg. Girlfriend is one cool customer.

Summer is being boarded here in Florida and we’ll pick her up again for the journey home. I miss my girl!

By the way, the Pregnant One and her Non-Pregnant Husband, are both doing fabulously. It’s been fun to get to see their cozy beautifully decorated apartment for the first time. They are such good hosts, even to the point of temporarily moving an entire bed into their apartment so that Steve and I would have a comfortable place to sleep.  And I must add that it’s fun to get to sleep right next to Noah’s crib and to think that in just a few short weeks, he will be lying in there. Awww . . . .

Yesterday, I was outright, downright, unmitigatingly lazy. After the jam packed, crazily frantic days leading up to our departure and the 14-hour road trip,  I didn’t even get out of my pajamas until 2:30 yesterday.  .

Ahh. Laziness is a wonderful thing.

Today we will actually kick into gear and start doing Fun Floridian Activities at which point I will have more scintillating pictures to show you, rather than just traffic jamming and headless dogs sleeping.

See you soon!

Glad you made it! Have fun. I am off to help my daughter move to another rental house in Champaign, IL. I will get to be Maw Maw for a few days – something you will get to relish in the very near future. So exciting!

Enjoy your time with the family! As our due date is a little closer than little Noah’s, I’ve started collecting lots of goodies. I’m sure Meagan is getting lots of great advice from her sister, but in case she’s interested in a little light reading, I’ve had three books gifted to me from other mothers – Secrets of the Baby Whisperer, 12 Hours of Sleep by 12 Weeks and The No Cry Sleep Solution (you can see that those that know me know how I like to sleep!). Also, I just received a Fisher Price Rock ‘N Play sleeper that another new mom swears by. Her baby won’t sleep in the crib but loves this Rock ‘N Play. I figure us first time moms have to stick together and share all the tips and tricks we can!

      Courtney,

Those sound like great books; I’ll be sure to pass those titles on to Meagan as well as the Rock’n’ Play Sleeper. New moms can NEVER have enough sleep. Thanks for thinking of her!

Traffic jamming. Love it! Traffic jams SHOULD have their own verb!

Welcome to Jacksonville, FL! Traffic is terrible with all the constant construction. I drive thru it every day to work.
